A Defined, Step-by-Step Financial Planning Process—From Fit to Blueprint
Best Path Advisors makes starting financial planning simple: a fit-first call, a clear discovery, and a process that answers your questions before you decide.
What to Expect From Your First Call to Your Custom Plan
Many clients worry that starting with a financial advisor will be vague, confusing, or just a sales pitch. Our process is different. Whether you meet in our Colleyville office or virtually from anywhere, you’ll know each step in advance—and what you need to do next.
Your Proven Retirement Planning Process
The Fit-First Intro Call
A brief, no-pressure call to discuss your goals, questions, and timeline. We outline how our process works and make sure it’s the right fit—before you invest more time or effort.
Discovery Meeting
If there’s a mutual fit, we’ll move to an in-depth meeting (in-person or virtual). Here, we map out your financial picture, goals, worries, and opportunities. This step is all about getting the “what matters most” onto the table.
Document Checklist & Data Gathering
You’ll get a clear checklist—no guessing about what to bring. Common items include account statements, tax returns, estate documents, and insurance policies. We handle intake efficiently so you can focus on outcomes.
Analysis—Spotting Trainwrecks & Opportunities
Our team runs a numbers-driven review to identify potential gaps, risks, and hidden opportunities—using our Best Path Blueprint™ as the organizing framework.
Plan Presentation—Plain English, No Jargon
You’ll receive your custom plan explained in clear terms: where you stand, what needs attention, and recommended next steps for retirement, taxes, risk, and legacy.
Implementation & Ongoing Reviews
If you choose to work together, we guide you through plan implementation, investment adjustments, and regular check-ins to keep your plan up to date as life changes.
Frequently asked Questions
Your Planning Questions, Answered
What happens in the first meeting with a financial advisor?
The first call is a short, mutual fit conversation-no paperwork or commitments required. We discuss your current situation and our expertise to see if we’re the right match for your needs.
How do you decide if you’re a good fit?
We do our best work with women and couples ages 50+ who are planning for retirement or already retired, who want a comprehensive plan and a partner and guide to help them throughout retirement. We do not work with people who want investment management without a plan, as we believe the plan guides the portfolio. We will ask about your priorities, preferred decision style, and concerns and share where our process and expertise does or does not align with your needs.
What documents do I need to start?
We provide a checklist, but typically ask for account statements, recent tax returns, and estate or insurance documents once we move beyond the intro call. We will discuss any information unique to your situation.
Can I meet in person or virtually?
Yes, if we agree we’re a fit, we can meet in person or virtually, whichever is better for you. Our fit-first intro meeting is offered only by phone or zoom. Most people choose to meet virtually for our discovery meeting and in person at our Colleyville office for plan presentations or plan reviews, but all meetings can be held virtually.
How long does the process take?
We are committed to delivering a great experience without compromise. We want to ensure that your plan is sound and covers all important aspects. Your initial plan will take 10 weeks from start to finish, after the fit-first meeting:
- Week 1 – Discovery Meeting
- Weeks 2-3 – Data Gathering and Review
- Weeks 4-5 – Base Plan Presentation
- Weeks 6-8 – Scenarios Presentation
- Weeks 9-10 – Q&A and Action Plan
Can I work with you if I am not in Colleyville or Texas?
Yes! We have clients in many other states, including California, Kansas, Nebraska, New York, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin, and more.
